According to Article 14 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, the Senate consists of the Rector as the chairperson, Vice Rectors, Deans, and one faculty member selected for a three-year term from each faculty’s Faculty Council, as well as directors of institutes and vocational schools affiliated with the Rectorate. The Senate meets at least twice a year, at the beginning and end of each academic year. The Rector may call the Senate to meet whenever deemed necessary.
Duties: The Senate is the academic body of the university and performs the following tasks:
- To make decisions regarding the principles of the university's educational, scientific research, and publishing activities,
- To prepare or provide opinions on drafts of laws and regulations affecting the entire university,
- To prepare the university and its affiliated units’ regulations, which will come into effect after approval by the Rector and publication in the Official Gazette,
- To examine and decide on the university's annual educational programs and calendar,
- To award honorary academic titles not linked to an exam and to decide on proposals from faculty councils regarding these titles,
- To review and decide on appeals made against the decisions of faculty councils and the councils of institutes and vocational schools affiliated with the Rectorate,
- To elect members for the University Board of Directors,
- To perform other duties assigned by law.
