Opening a Double Major Program
Departments and programs wishing to offer a double major program must submit their proposals, including any special conditions, to the Faculty Council. These proposals become final upon the Faculty Council’s recommendation and approval by the University Senate. The respective departments then administer approved double-major programs. The total number of ECTS credits for courses taken in the second major program, along with those considered common with the primary major, must be at least 240 ECTS for undergraduate programs.
If any changes are made to the curricula of undergraduate degree programs, the curricula of double major programs are revised accordingly.
Double Major Program Quotas and Special Conditions
The number of students admitted to the double major program in each department is at least 20% of that department’s YKS (Higher Education Institutions Exam) quota for the given year. Student Registration
Student registrations for those who are entitled to join the Double Major Program will be carried out by the Student Affairs Department. Students will not need to apply separately to the faculty or their primary program for registration in the double major program.
Credit and Grade Transfer (Course Equivalence and Grade Adjustment)
The initial process for course equivalencies and grade adjustments will begin after the student's registration in the Double Major Program is completed. Courses from the primary program that can be considered equivalent to courses in the double major curriculum will be identified. During this process, students will not need to apply separately.
In subsequent academic terms, the course equivalencies and grade adjustments process will begin at the end of each academic term. At this stage, students must apply to the relevant Department Chair.
The relevant department committees carry out evaluations in accordance with the principles outlined in the Regulation on Transfers Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs, Double Majors, Minors, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfers and the Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Double Major Program Directive.
Course equivalency and grade adjustment are carried out by considering the teaching language, content, and national and international credit values of the courses that the student has successfully completed in their primary program and the equivalent courses in the double major curriculum. Preliminary evaluation results are submitted to the Dean's Office with the relevant department committee's report, and final results are confirmed with the Faculty Board's decision.
Courses and grades included in the credit and grade transfer process will be entered into the automation system by the faculty-student affairs coordinator before the course registration process begins, to reflect on the student's double major transcript. Equivalent courses will appear on both the primary and double major transcripts.
Double Major Program Coordination and Advisory
A Double Major Program Coordinator has been assigned to each of our departments to determine the courses in the double major program and provide academic advising to students. This coordinator works in collaboration with the student's primary program advisor to ensure the effective implementation of the program. Additionally, the coordinator reviews and approves the student's course registrations for the double major program.
Course Registration
A student registered in the Double Major Program is required to pre-register for their courses through the University Information Management System at the beginning of each semester, from the semester they are enrolled until graduation. The pre-registration must be sent for advisor approval within the course registration period announced in the academic calendar. Priority should be given to courses from earlier semesters that are not included in the credit and grade transfer process.
Registration Freezing
If a student freezes their registration in the primary program, their registration in the Double Major Program will also be frozen.
Students who cannot take courses in the Double Major Program due to reasons such as course cancellation or scheduling conflicts may have their registration for that semester frozen with the proposal of the department offering the Double Major Program and the decision of the Faculty Board.
Duration of Study
Students who gain the right to graduate from their primary degree program but fail to complete the Double Major Program will be subject to the maximum duration of study as specified in Article 44(c) of Law No. 2547, starting from the academic year they were enrolled in the Double Major Program.
Here’s the translation:

A student who withdraws from the Double Major Program is not allowed to repeat or continue the failed Double Major Program courses.
Courses in the Double Major Program that the student has successfully completed may be considered as mandatory or elective in the primary program, if approved by the Faculty Board of the primary program. Double Major Program courses not accepted in the primary program will appear on the transcript and diploma supplement without being included in the GPA calculation.
